As a nature lover, avid cyclist, birder, and all-around outdoor enthusiast, I’ve been biking the trails at George Mitchell Nature Preserve for 8 years. With its varied habitat and ponds that attracts all types of birds, I was thrilled to find such a gem at the Spring Creek Nature Trail, and started birding in addition to biking the trails. When I came across a sign that stated the land was maintained by the Bayou Land Conservancy, I researched their website and immediately contacted them to volunteer leading weekly bird walks, which I’ve enjoyed for years before moving to Texas. Being fully aligned with BLC’s mission of protecting and conserving land and streams, and wishing to be a part of that mission, I completed their Ambassador Program, joined the weekly Trail Crew and am happy to be working on preserving the very trails I enjoy riding and birding on. Knowing BLC is committed to preserving this habitat for birds and wildlife makes me proud to be an Ambassador, and leading bird walks for others to enjoy the natural beauty of these trails for years to come is very rewarding.

"As a member of the trail crew,  I know that I am making a very important and significant commitment to the  success of BLC based upon weekly trail work, trail stewardship and other BLC activities. However, the organization needs more than “sweat” to sustain  itself, grow, be impactful and a key player in the management of the local environment.  It needs financial support as well. For this reason I have recently joined the Land Lover Club. I know that my monthly financial support is contributing to the success of BLC. I encourage each of you to join me in the Land Lover Club!"

"Securing and maintaining more natural open space is imperative for all.

The BLC is doing just that. Being partners, with several impactful
organizations, we fully realize that their Mission and Vision are NOT accomplished without volunteers and donations. The BLC’s conservation and community programs heavily rely on these. It cannot do it without people and monetary support. We strive to ensure that the BLC not only maintains what it has, but continues to evolve for the present and future benefits of our community and those who visit it. It gives us great personal satisfaction knowing that we are helping."

Bayou Land Conservancy Board Member, Matt Berg, knew after attending our Wild & Scenic Film Festival in 2016 that he had to get involved and start making a difference.
"I find huge joy in knowing my partnership with BLC helps keeps homes, schools, and businesses across the region safe from flooding. I also love connecting residents (me included!) with opportunities to explore tons of special outdoor places. I never stop smiling when a friend walks through preserved land–that they never even knew existed– for the first time. BLC is an easy choice for giving back directly to my own community, and even then I still continue to benefit!"
