BLC Bird Walks

We'd love to see you for a birding walk along BLC's Spring Creek Nature Trail. Bird walks/surveys are held every Monday and the first Saturday of each month, led by Texas Master Naturalist, Spring Creek Greenway Ambassador and BLC Trail Steward JoJo Bradbury

We begin the walk at 7:30 a.m. from the George Mitchell Nature Preserve Trailhead, the parking area located at the end of Dr. Anne Snyder Drive, and walk approximately 2.5 miles until around 10:30 a.m.

The walk meanders along the Spring Creek Nature trail, a natural surface trail around ponds and tranquil wetlands, through trees and natural grassy areas, therefore you should wear hiking shoes that you don’t mind getting wet, as there may be muddy areas along the trail and a sandy/rocky stream crossing that we may cross depending on the amount of water at the time. The varied habitat at Creekside Park provides food and shelter for many songbirds, raptors and shore birds, and we see approximately 50 different species during the walks. Bring your binoculars, insect repellent, and water.  Please note there are no restroom facilities at the Park.

Joanne JoJo Bradbury

JoJo Bradbury has lived, traveled, and observed birds around the world, but her earliest memories of being intrigued by birds goes back to her New Jersey back yard as an 8-year-old, watching the birds flock to feast on the crumbs left by her father. As her life unfolded as a busy professional, getting outdoors to hike or bike was her escape, and birding became the common thread for her adventures.

JoJo discovered BLC while biking the Spring Creek Nature Trail. Astounded by the variety of birds along the trail and in the ponds, she immediately reached out to our office and offered to lead bird walks to share her knowledge and passion with others. JoJo loves mentoring new birders and welcomes people to her walks from beginners to experts. “

“We’re all here to explore, learn from each other, and have fun, enjoying a treasured gift of nature, come on out and join us!”
